How Aimee is different

Not just another AI chatbot

Aimee runs on AI, but it isn't an open, general-purpose chat app. It was built for people who need to keep a private record of what's happening in a hard relationship, and the privacy rules around it are much tighter.

General AI apps differ and change their policies often. Before sharing personal details with any AI tool, check its privacy settings. One exception applies to Aimee too: if our AI provider's systems flag an uploaded image as possible child sexual abuse material, the provider keeps that image for review. More on this below.

What happens to what you share

Where your information goes, and where it doesn't

What we keep for your account

  • Your display name (a pseudonym is fine) and email address
  • Your chats, Events, Binders, My Story and documents, for as long as you keep your account
  • Safety-screening results: which safety categories, if any, a message was flagged for. Screening never blocks you from using Aimee.
  • For paid plans, billing details from Stripe. We never see your full card number.

What our AI provider sees

  • Only what Aimee needs to answer you: your messages, text from documents you upload, screenshots and relevant account details
  • For signed-in accounts, it processes this, sends the answer back to us, and keeps nothing
  • It is not allowed to train on your content

Who can read it

  • You, and anyone you invite into a Team. Team members see everything in your account, so invite with care.
  • No one at Aimee Says reads your content in the ordinary course. We only look when you ask us for help.

What we never do

  • Sell your personal information
  • Share it with advertising networks
  • Train any AI on your chats or content
  • Hand it over without valid legal process. We push back on overbroad requests and tell you first unless the law forbids it.
Signed in vs. anonymous

An account gets you the strongest protection

You can try Aimee without an account. Anonymous chat works a little differently behind the scenes.

Free or paid account

Zero data retention

  • Our AI provider doesn't store your conversations, including in its abuse-monitoring logs
  • Your record is saved to your account, so you can come back to it
  • You control it: export it or wipe it whenever you choose
  • You can sign up under a pseudonym
Anonymous chat

Private, but not zero retention

  • We delete your chat from Aimee Says within 24 hours
  • Our AI provider's automated safety systems may keep an encrypted copy. People at the provider don't read it unless the law requires it, and it's never used to train AI.
  • The copy becomes unreadable after 30 days, when the encryption keys are destroyed
  • Because there's no account, we can't find or delete that copy for you
Deleting your data

Go to Settings → Security. Your signed-in session confirms it's you, so there are no extra forms.

Sensitive images

Documenting what happened, safely

Many people use Aimee to record harm done to them or to their children. A few rules keep that safe and legal.

Intimate images shared without your consent

If someone shared, posted or threatened to share intimate images of you, you can save those images, and screenshots of where they appeared, to your own private account. This is allowed even if the other person appears in them. The images must show only adults, and Aimee can't be used to send or publish them.

Never upload sexual images of a child

Not even to preserve them. Possessing or sharing them is a crime in most places, whatever the reason. Uploaded images are scanned automatically, and flagged images are kept for review and may be reported. Instead, report them to the NCMEC CyberTipline (1-800-843-5678). In Aimee, you can write down what happened, that the material exists, and when and to whom you reported it.
